iphone 3.0 issues on 2g iphone?

I need some help. I am an AT&T user who has an edge/2g/original iphone. I am out of contract, therefore, I do not have an Apple plan (nor do I want one).
I recently upgraded my phone from quickpwn 2.2.1 to 3.0 on the advice of an ill informed blogger and now I am bricked I guess (I am not really sure). I have the 3.0 software on my phone, but since I do not have a plan, I cannot move forward with the iphone setup on itunes 8.2 as it wants to verify my account.
All of the information I am finding online about downgrading aren’t working because they are all assuming that you are able to utilize itunes to facilitate the downgrade.
Does anyone know of any information on either how to unlock the 3.0 software I downloaded (before quickpwn’s supposed Friday release) or how to restore my phone back to my previous settings/unlock/jailbreak, without losing all of my apps, contacts, music, etc?
To reiterate, I run vista. I have an iphone 2g. I am currently upgraded to 3.0, but would like to unlock 3.0 before Friday or restore to previous firmware 2.2.1 (unlocked and jailbroken).

You can unlock your 2g iphone running 3.0 without having an plan. The program you need is called redsn0w. This is the unlock program that will unlock your baseband on the iphone, so you can use another carrier’s sim card. They have a windows version and a mac version, depending on the pc your using to unlock it. I work for Tmobile as a pda tech, and I have just recently unlocked my iphone with this program. I too was originally running 2.2.1 and upgraded to 3.0. The video I used to walk through the unlock process is on youtube from tysiphonehelp . He has links to the software and the program redsn0w on the right side when you click on the more info link. Just follow his video, and this will get you back up and running with an unlocked iphone 2g with 3.0 software on it.
